How learning is changing in the digital age

Before proposing solutions, we want to understand how students really study today — what excites them and what discourages them, what challenges they face not only in class but also when studying on their own. We want to hear from them which content captures their attention and which loses it, how they learn best and what sparks their curiosity. DIADE starts from the everyday reality of young people. Through a questionnaire administered to young people (via schools and associations) we collect their voices — not to judge them, but to listen and understand. The data collected become annual public reports available to researchers, teachers, head teachers and institutions.

Our capacity for thought is directly linked to our knowledge of language — the first step towards forming truly aware young people. An adolescent with a limited vocabulary cannot think in complex ways, not for lack of intelligence but for lack of tools. We can only think as well as the words we know allow us to. DIADE promotes "Word Days" in participating schools: from October to March each year, in-class sessions where a single word becomes the starting point for exploring ideas, debating, arguing and discovering unexpected connections between different fields of knowledge. A chance for debate and a small intellectual adventure; the beginning of a journey towards knowledge and self-awareness.

Places where cultures, generations and languages intermingle

DIADE promotes the opening of physical meeting and cultural exchange spaces for young people aged 15 to 19. Each Agorà is born in a school, library or civic space and becomes a permanent place for intercultural dialogue, syncretism between traditional and digital knowledge, and the development of critical thinking. Not a course, not an event: a permanent hub where the human is valued and meets the digital in a conscious way. A project of particular interest for the dialogue between diverse cultures present in Italian classrooms.

Not everything found online is of equal value

The web is full of educational materials, videos, explanations and guides for students and teachers. But who guarantees that they are accurate, up to date and pedagogically sound? DIADE, through its Ethics & Science Committee and in collaboration with an accredited certification body, evaluates and certifies online digital content for educational purposes. A quality mark that schools, teachers and families can recognise and trust.

Against epistemic illusion — the illusion of knowing

Knowing how to read an image, a headline, a video or an AI-generated response is not an innate skill. It has to be learned. DIADE organises online sessions, school visits and civic events for young people, teachers and families: concrete opportunities to learn how to identify reliable content, understand how the algorithms that shape our view of the world work, and develop the ability to ask the right questions before believing something. Not lectures, but active workshops and discussions based on real cases.

Growing up together in the age of the screen

Today's parents have children who live in a world they never knew as adolescents. DIADE meets with families — not to say what is right or wrong, but to open a conversation about how the digital world changes relationships, attention spans, and the ways we learn and live together. The aim is to spread awareness of how the digital world works, the opportunities it offers and the limits and risks it presents. Sessions will be held online.

Creating the future of learning, together

DIADE's Pedagogical Experimentation Lab directly involves students in the creation of new digital content and tools for teaching: videos, interactive formats, guides, and study pathways designed by those who experience school every day. It is a hands-on journey where groups of young people, supported by experts in communication, pedagogy and technology, develop ideas that can become concrete materials — certified by DIADE's Ethics & Science Committee and made available to schools. The Lab is also the place where DIADE experiments: new languages, new approaches, new questions. An open workshop that grows with the people who inhabit it.

Naming what we feel

Learning is not only a matter of the mind. Emotions enter the classroom every day — in concentration, in the fear of making mistakes, in the need to be seen. Yet no one teaches young people to recognise, name or manage them. DIADE brings emotional literacy days to schools, led by educators and psychologists. Learning to name what we feel is the first step towards becoming more self-aware, more resilient and more capable of being with others — and developing empathy.
